ALL WALKS OF LIFE

The hawker centre is a collision of food cultures, conversations and characters. It is so central to the pulse of Singapore life and brings together people of all ages and races, from all walks of life. In this tote bag design proposal, I have deliberately chosen to shift the lens downwards, and focus on the footwear worn by the different hawker patrons – from indiscriminate Bata school shoes to scruffy sandals to posh heels.
In depicting this colourful mix of footwear, I hope non-Singaporeans will come to view Singapore in a different light. I also hope to encourage my fellow Singaporeans to keep embracing this diversity. For this is home, truly.
